Today’s visit in Bronxville, NY was all about mirrors and clean storage. The homeowner wanted three everyday-use mirrors mounted at the right height, plus one oversized mirror weighing around 100 pounds, and a custom bookshelf assembled and anchored so nothing could tip or shift over time.
Scope of work
- Install three decorative wall mirrors in a hallway and bedroom.
- Secure one oversized ~100 lb mirror to a drywall surface safely.
- Assemble and level a custom bookshelf and anchor it to the wall.
Protecting the space first
As with every job, floors and nearby furniture were covered before tools came out. This keeps dust and hardware off the homeowner’s belongings and makes cleanup much faster at the end.
How we handled the heavy mirror
A 100 lb mirror can’t be treated like normal wall decor. The mounting points were checked with a stud finder first. Where structure was available, the mirror brackets were secured directly into framing with heavy-duty screws. Where there was only drywall, I used high-rated heavy-duty anchors designed for large loads so the weight is properly distributed.
For this installation, layout was confirmed with the homeowner before drilling: centerline to the wall, final height for everyday use, and how it lined up with nearby furniture and lighting. Once the hardware was set, the mirror was lifted into place carefully and double-checked with a level.
Three additional mirrors for daily use
The three smaller mirrors were treated with the same attention to layout: consistent height, equal spacing, and alignment to doors, trim, and furniture so they look like they were always meant to be there. Each piece was mounted with the right anchors for its weight and hanging hardware.
Custom bookshelf assembly & anchoring
The custom bookshelf was assembled, squared, and leveled in its final position. Once the shelves were built and adjusted, the unit was anchored to the wall to prevent tipping—especially important in homes with kids or pets. This way, the furniture doesn’t just look good on day one; it stays safe and stable long term.
Time on site & homeowner outcome
From floor protection to final wipe-down, this visit took a few hours. At the end, all mirrors were secure, level, and ready for daily use, and the custom bookshelf gave the room a clean, organized look. The homeowner walked the space, approved every install, and everything was cleaned up before I left.
